 Self-care at home

by Liz, Paing Nyan, Kahina and Yezenia

If you are new to Pittsburgh, what should you do at home to take care of yourself?

You should:
  • Relax and keep calm
  • Make a routine
  • Keep away from negative people
  • Do positive things that make you happy
  • Workout--walk
  • Eat healthy
  • Talk to friends, family, co-workers and possibly your supervisor
  • Talk to teachers, classmates and caseworkers
  • Explore Pittsburgh and find new places to visit
  • Find restaurants or places to meet with people from your country
  • Make new friends
  • Create something! (drawing, painting, writing, pottery)
  • Use your days off from work to have fun!

You should talk to:
  • Friends, family, neighbors and co-workers
  • Classmates
  • Teachers
  • People from your country in Pittsburgh
  • People at the library in your neighborhood (to help you find things to do more hobbies)
  • You can talk with people at your church, temple, mosque

Questions you should ask:

  • Can you help me with something?
    • Can I talk to you sometimes?
    • Can I work less? (question for your supervisor)
  • Do you want to go shopping with me?
    • Do you want to go for a walk together?
    • Do you want to do something together?
  • Are you free this weekend to hang out?
  • Do you know some fun things to do in Pittsburgh?
    • What is the most popular gym in Pittsburgh?
    • What is a good recreational family club?
    • What is the best health food store?
    • Which park do you recommend to walk and play?
    • What places do you recommend to relax with friends and listen to live music?
